Sugarloaf
USA, Maine - 'The Loaf' is an award-winning on-mountain
village beneath Maine's second highest peak, regarded by
many as one of the top New England ski resorts. Sugarloaf
places great emphasis on service quality, and it shows throughout
the resort operation.
Sugarloaf's vertical is one of the biggest in New England
and management is eager to point out that it exceeds that
of some famous resorts out west (including Crested Butte,
Taos and Copper). Sugarloaf USA also competes well with
those names in ski terrain - with big bump runs, a dozen
glades and around 110 trails over its 1,400 acres. These
stats are equal to or better than many Western ski areas.
The rebith of Sugarloaf USA began in 1993/94
with a major expansion of the snowmaking system, among the
world's most powerful. For the first time, snowmaking covered
the above treeline Front Face snowfields -- the only lift
served above treeline skiing in the east. Then came the
addition of the longest, fastest chairlift in North America,
the Sugarloaf/USA SuperQuad. Following the acquistion by
the American Skiing Company came further expansion in 1997
with the addition of two new quad chairs, four new trails
and 100 tower snowguns.
At the bottom of the mountain a true Nordic
village with more than 40 restaurants and shops including:
grocery stores, ski and snowboard shops, specialty shops,
real estate offices, a laundromat, two health clubs, a hair
salon, and an art gallery.
