Breckenridge
Ski Resort, Colorado - Breckenridge is not purpose-built
but an original mining town with 171 listed buildings. The
town was founded in 1859 and is the oldest continually inhabited
community in the Colorado mountains. The resort is the most
popular US destination for European skiers and the second
most popular ski resort in the US in terms of skier visits
(1.2 million). More people come here from the UK than from
Canada, the second most popular source for foreign guests.
Out-of-state visitors from within the US come mainly from
Texas, followed by Illinois and Florida.
As you'd expect, there's a huge choice
of things to do off the slope and a vast range of lodging
options, with an accommodation capacity of 23,000. It's
a popular destination for couples from all over the world
wanting to get married on the slopes. The variety of meals
served up by the 50 or so restaurants is possibly unequaled.
Dining options include Cajun, French, German, Hunan Chinese,
Java, Mandarin, Mexican, Native American, Northern Italian,
Organic, Rastafarian, Southern Italian, Sushi and Vegetarian.
You can even get a burger and fries... if you really must.
